My students became just as happy as I did!
In February I was delighted to receive school supplies for my classroom. I can not thank you all enough for this generous act! As a teacher, it is EXCITING to receive new items for my classroom! All of the items received not only benefit my students but greatly impact my teaching practices, in a positive way. For example, one of the items received in February was a box of “Big Money”. It came just in time! Prior to the arrival of the items, I had planned to teach my students all about coins and notes as a part of our math curriculum. However, I found myself a bit stressed out because there were limited money manipulatives around. As a matter of fact, the other P2 teacher and I planned to share the small amount of manipulatives that we had between our 2 classes of 28 students.
Even sharing, there was still not enough for each child to have their own manipulatives. However, this all changed when your team came to visit my school. First off, like I mentioned above, I was already excited to receive items for my classroom! I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. However, when I opened up the MANY boxes that I received and saw a box of ‘Big Money’ I was so excited! I shouted “OH MY GOSH!” My students looked at me and said “what happened Ms. Cann?” I explained to them all about the lack of money manipulatives that I had available to teach the content, but now this had all changed. My students then became just as happy as I did. The following weeks, I taught the money unit and students interacted with their new money manipulatives daily. They thoroughly enjoyed receiving these items and being able to use the items to assist them in their learning. I am a teacher who loves using manipulatives when teaching, rather than boring worksheets, thus this was the highlight of all of the many other items I received. Thank you, thank you, thank you very much for your deliveries. Your kind act does not go unnoticed. Everything that you do is helping to improve teaching and learning across our island of Bermuda. Thank You! – Paget Primary P2 Teacher
