Prison officers donate $14,000 to charities
Seven groups are each $2,000 better off thanks to the generosity of the Prison Officers Association.
Cheques were presented to six charities – Bermuda Diabetes Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bermuda, Coalition for the Protection of Children, Eliza Doolittle Society, Focus Counselling Services, and Transitional Community Services – along with community action group Supporting Public Schools.
A spokeswoman for the association said: “Corrections officers are ever mindful of the happenings in the community and what transpires within it, while recognising that those they care for daily are loved ones of the residents of the wider community.
“It’s a delicate balance between asserting authority and living safely in society.
“Being ever mindful of the pitfalls and struggles of others, and in light of the challenges presented during the pandemic, the POA decided to do its part to assist charities and interest groups in Bermuda as they go about their vision and mission to help others.”
Presenting the cheques, POA chairman Officer Timothy Seon said: “We are happy to provide each group with a check in the amount of $2,000 and we hope that those in the community are well-served by our donation.”
